Help!

So remember the child that was asking to go to bed at 6:30 and loving her nighttime sleep? Well she is gone!!!! I am so hoping this is temporary and due to a cold that she has had about 2 weeks (we are going to the doctor today). But in the meantime I need help! What do you do when your almost 2 year old refuses to go to sleep? We rock her, let her sit with us, let her cry it out for about 20-30 min at a time, and then start the cycle over. Anyone have any advice??? She falls asleep in our lap and then the minute we put her down in her crib she is up screaming Mama, Dada, over and over and over. I know this may not be that unusual but it certainly is for us. Last night we got her to sleep about 9:30 but then she still woke up at 5:15! Here's to hoping tonight is a better night!

PS-see the post below about the pumpkin patch if you missed it; it's more upbeat!

  1. Poor thing! Maybe her ears are bothering her? When mine went from good sleepers to sleepless it was always their ears (laying down just makes them hurt worse). Hopefully you all will get rest again soon!!

  2. When Sinclair has a cold with a runny nose we give her Benadryl and run the cool mist humidifier. She went through a phase a few months ago where she would wake super earlier and I heard it was just a phase. She is back to sleeping much better. As far as nighttime goes, do you do a bedtime routine? I'm more lenient when she is sick, but I usually just let her cry it out. If I go in, it just makes it worse.

  3. I'm with Lyndsey. I would certainly question the ears. Hadley always ran fever with her ear infections, but some kids don't.
And, like Sarah said, what is her bedtime routine? Do you do the same thing every night? Hadley knows that as soon as she comes out of the bath & puts her pjs on then it's bedtime. This may be earlier or later every night, but it's always bath & then bed. We also have a little Fisher Price soother thing in her bed (that she can turn on by herself). It plays music & little animals go back & forth. When she can't sleep, she just keeps watching it over & over (I can hear it on the monitor). Maybe you can try something like that??
Good luck!! This won't last forever! :) Before you know it, she'll be 16 & you'll be trying to drag her out of bed for school!
